Its operating companies manufacture products for a variety of global industries, including chemicals, plastics, automotive, aviation and healthcare. Our client permanently invests in innovation, a substantial part of this effort is devoted to the development of sustainable chemistry.

The company has approximately 11,000 employees and operates from multiple locations worldwide.

 

The Legal Department supports various divisions’ management in all aspects of the business. It reports directly to the General counsel. It cooperates intensely with management and is involved in major issues and decisions the division faces.

 

Because of the growth of the company, our client is looking for a Commercial Legal Counsel.

Role

 

The legal department is involved in all major decisions in the group division worldwide. Therefore, the Commercial Legal Counsel’s objective is to support the company’s growth and profitability. 

Therefore he/she will:

 

§       Provide legal advice and support in matters covering commercial subjects, torts, trade, competition regulations and business practices;

§       Communicate the legal implications, risks and opportunities associated with its commercial transactions, business operations, projects and strategies;

§       Interact with internal customers at all levels of management, regional and international;

§       Provide appropriate training to line management on relevant legislation and procedures;

§       Work closely with law firms;

§       Contribute to the organisation of the legal department and its processes.

 

The position involves a limited level travelling.  The legal counsel reports to the Director Legal Services. The position will be based in the Brussels area.

Profile

Education

 

-          Master’s law degree obtained with good results.

-          A supplementary degree is considered as an asset.

Experience

 

-          4-8 post qualification experience in contract drafting, advising and transactional work in commercial law and corporate law

-          Familiarity with aspects of competition law, IP and/or regulatory law (eg REACH) is considered an asset.

-          Experience in a similar position or as a lawyer in reputable law firm

Languages

 

-          Excellent knowledge of English.

-          Native or near native in at least 1 other European language
